This little project was 13 years in the making, with a lot of stopping and restarting as the idea grew from a couple isolated shorts way back in 2012 into something that could be considered an entire narrative following the beats of the original Star Wars.
Seeing that movie (I was 4 when it came out) was easily the most formative experience of my life, at least in terms of opening my imagination to what was possible to create. The idea of making "Primitive" Star Wars came from a general fatigue from the grind of making animated shorts, as they are typically characterized by agonizingly slow progress through animations and renders. I decided to use nothing but the simplest rigs and basic materials (not textures, at least for the most part), and sets and vehicles that would be a simplistically built as I could stand. Lighting would be simple, renders would be fast, and the animation would be (hopefully) delightfully rough.
I've never had so much fun making anything. I hope you enjoy it.
NOTE: Given the scattershot history of how this was made, I want to acknowledge that there are two assets that I did not make in this project: the Vader and Stormtrooper helmets were downloaded assets from over 13 years ago, and I used them in the initials animations before I even knew what I was going to be doing with them. I'm sorry to say that I have no idea where I may have downloaded those assets from - it was so long ago and I hadn't any idea that they'd be used in a project at the time. Whoever it was that modeled those helmets back then, you have my sincerest thanks.
